Maci's Place

This weblog is inspired by my daughter. Her interest in the arts seems to be increasing rapidly. We'll post things she's created not only to share with you, but to track her progress as she grows. It'll be fun to see where this talent takes her in the future!

More drawings from December 2008

A thank-you for Uncle Clint: Moriah and Maci sledding down a hill. Can you tell she's trying not to smile?! Silly girl.

We are talking about getting bunk beds for the girls. Maci is so excited. Here is a thank-you card drawing for Grandpa Jim and Grandma Sue. She has the bunk beds, green rug, her book shelf with the lamp etc. Grandma and Grandpa gave Moriah and Maic pajamas for Christmas, so you can see how she detailed their jammies. I love how she drew my dad's hair. Yes, my dad is balding on the top!

In the process of getting a much-needed trim!

December 2008

Kind of the same story. I was wondering what Maci was doing that was keeping her so quiet. This is what she was working on. She has the letters of the alphabet with a picture representing each letter. I will post a closer picture in a second.

Here was an "ornament" that she made for the tree. I'm not sure where she learned to draw palm trees, but I love this! I think my favorite thing about this is how she drew the reflection of the sun in the water!!

Moriah's first swing ride!

August 2008
Yes, I am way behind in my blog posting. I realize that it is now October and this picture is from August. I will be posting some current ones soon, though. Maci has been a drawing machine. Our kitchen table is pretty much her permanent studio with paper, markers, and crayons everyone. I clean it up and it's out again. There will be more to come, for sure! I better get to drawing myself or she's gonna pass me up! Happy Fall to you all!

She's going 3-D!!

August 15, 2008
I didn't show her how to make the little stands on these drawings or help her cut them out. Honestly, I still haven't taught her anything. I just want her creative mind and heart to flow freely without putting restrictions on her. So far, the results have been amazing. I love to ask her about each of her drawings--each little mark is a symbol of something. I'm sure at some point she will be asking me how to do this or that. At that point, I will direct her a bit. Until then, I'm just loving see what her hands can make. She seriously spends at least half of the day drawing and creating things. I keep a lot of her drawings and post a few here and there. Anyway, here is her 3-D farm. Of course, she doesn't know that it is, though. Walt was so excited. There is a cow, a pig and the orange animal is a horse. There is a barn, the hay, and the little cat in the loft. She said that the blue next to the cat is it's water. I'm not sure where she's seen all of this. We drive by barns when we are on our way to my parents house, maybe that's where she got the idea? Love it though!

She loves her sissy

July 2008
This was on the back of the drawing of Moriah. This is a picture of Moriah crying and Maci is comforting her. Walt is standing by the door (the brown rectangle) and I am on the left. The little round shapes below Walt are our shoes (we take off our shoes at the door). I'm pretty sure the big black ones are Walt's work shoes! She told me these details. Is this not the sweetest thing? I love how her arms are reaching out to her sissy.

Moriah

July 2008
Maci had just tripped Moriah and I saw it. We "dealt" with it. She was very sorry. Next thing I knew, she was drawing this picture of Moriah. She even drew exactly what Moriah was wearing! I love her heart. She uses her art to express it.

Stand-up, try-ups!

July 23, 2008
When I asked Maci what to name this, that's what she said. So if you are wondering about the title, you will have to ask her! I do know that this is a picture of her and daddy doing head-stands against the wall. She drew every detail that is on the wall: the closet, the vent by the ceiling, the fire alarm, the fire sprinkler and the line where the ceiling meets the wall. I just love the details in this girls mind!!

Strike!

This is a drawing of Walt bowling on the wii. You can see Walt bowling at the front of the brown alley. At the end of the alley is the explosion that happens when you get a strike. Maci surprises me with her memory. She said that the blue square is a door. and the yellow square is "the thing to help you bowl" and the black line with the white square at the bottom of it "shows you how many days you wanna bowl". The figure at the left is daddy celebrating!

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!!

So, here are the bugs....just a few of the many drawings. I find that I'm having a harder time throwing any drawings away. Each drawing is so different and unique. She adds new details with each drawing. These are some that she did in one sitting after reading a book about bugs with her.

A lightning bug, butterfly, centipede, and roly-poly.

Just a few...

Maci has been going nuts drawing! She's always wanting to draw. Lately she's been into spiders and insects. We are going to the library and learning about them, so I guess that's what's on her mind. Pretty cute though. I'll be posting those in a second. For now, here's some from Father's Day.

Here's what Maci said when I asked her to tell me what she wanted me to write for daddy, "This is a picture about lions. There's four lions. One for mommy. One for daddy. One for Maci and one for Moriah. The sun is growing up, and we are ready to go swimming. The sky is really blue. It's very grassy on our feet. We like to play in the grass, and we like to roll in the grass. We have dandelions, and we play together. I love you daddy. Goodbye."

Image 2 is a drawing of Grandma Pam and Grandpa Jeff along with Bekah (aunt). Bekah is playing with a ball and I think it's their car that's in the lower right hand corner.
The last image is a drawing of Grandpa Jim and Grandma Sue. It's funny because I drew my dad's hair the exact same way when I was little...the little pieces of hair on the side.

She loves dandelions.

Something to do

My mom, Walt and I were having an intense conversation. Maci figured out that she needed to entertain herself and not interrupt (after several attempts). I noticed that she had grabbed some paper and the video. She was trying to draw what she saw from the video. I think she was trying to draw Baby Einstein in the top, right corner....not sure. I was just happy to have no interruptions! :) Can you see the watercolor painting in the corner of the picutre. I love it! She's started to draw/paint bows on the top of her girls' heads.

Something for George

My dad was driving through to visit a friend, George, in the hospital. Maci immediately wanted to draw something for him. So she quickly drew this while my dad waited. I love it that she is thoughtful and cares about other people. She has started some specific "symbols"...the grass, the sky, the sun, and the subject....and of course her name at the bottom.
These are two ladybugs. One is the mom and the other is the baby. I bet you can guess which one is which.

Finally.....we are outside!

Maci has been patiently waiting for the weather to warm up so that she can play outside. Here is something she "painted" the other day. I say painted because she likes to get the cement all wet and then use the chalks. It is a more intense and bright effect. I like it. I don't blame her for wanting to do it this way...it's messier too! She drew her name at the top. ;)

Dot Family

I was in the kitchen this evening when Maci brought this out to show me. You can guess who is who. The the more dots, the older we are! Notice daddy has the most. I'm guessing that Maci gave herself 4 for a reason. She LOVES the number 4 because that's how old she is, of course! I'm sure those of you with kids understand that thinking. Check out those feet!

Mr. Door

Maci drew this on February 18th. I wrote down what she was saying when she showed it to me...

"This is a blue door. This is his orange guitar and these are the things that make it go slow and fast (pointing to the bottom of the guitar). We hear it really loud. This is when we hear it quietly. This is when we hear it loud again, and quiet again. He's holding a stick and playing with it and jumping over it. This is the grass. This is the hair, and this is the ears right here. This is the eyes, and nose, and ears, and mouth. This is the decoration inside him. This is the curly hair and ears. His name is Mr. Door. This is the lock that opens him up; and he can walk with this handle on him. He says goodbye. He needs a balloon first before he says goodbye (while drawing a balloon). See, he's saying goodbye (drew a mouth)."

I love her imagination.

A Church

Maci's birthday was January 19th. She painted on bags for her friends and we put some balloons and craft stuff in them. This is one of my favorites. She says it's a church. The dots are people, and the yellow area is the sun. I love how little minds work. There's no inhibitions or rules when it comes to art.
